Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a structure fire, Sunday, January 20, 2013, at approximately 5:35 p.m. in the West Annandale area of Fairfax County. The structure is located at 3739 Morningside Drive.
Firefighters encountered a large out building fully involved with fire upon arrival. The two-story workshop is approximately 20 feet by 30 feet, located to the rear of the property’s primary residence. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. There was some minor fire extension to the nearby woodlands. An adult male was transported to the Washington Hospital Burn Center with non-life threatening injuries. Additionally, a firefighter received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was the ignition of gasoline from using a metal grinder inside the workshop.
