Alexandria Fire Fatality Identified

Kirkland Stewart, 68, of 6902 Deer Run Drive, Alexandria, has been identified as the victim in the townhouse fire, November 7, 2013, according to the medical examiner.
Fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
Fairfax County has recorded seven fire fatalities for 2013.
Fatal Alexandria Townhouse Fire
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fatal townhouse fire, Thursday, November 7, 2013, at approximately 4 a.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The townhouse is located at 6902 Deer Run Drive, Alexandria. The deceased is an adult male.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the front, side, and rear of the three-story end unit townhouse upon arrival. Due to the large volume of fire, a second alarm was requested bringing over 50 department personnel to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in 50 minutes.
The home was a total loss.
There were no other injuries.
Both police and fire investigators are investigating the cause of death. The name of the deceased will be withheld until notification of kin. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
