Fire Destroys Oakton Home
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department
News Release 13-43
Date: April, 23, 2013
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Monday, April 22, 2013, at approximately 2:05 p.m., in the Oakton area of Fairfax County. The single family home is located 11442 Vale Spring Drive.
Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof and attic of the two-story home upon arrival. Due to the roof being fully involved with fire and quickly extending throughout the home, firefighters used several additional hose lines to protect the detached garage and to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes and close-in power lines. The incident commander called for a second alarm bringing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 45 minutes. Crews established a continuous water supply using five fire engines in tandem to connect to the nearest hydrant. Two occupants were home when the fire broke out and escaped. A total of seven occupants have been displaced. Red Cross is supporting the occupants. Two occupants were transported to Fair Oaks Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The home is a total loss.
The fire is under investigation.
