Sprinkler Contains Building Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a mid-rise building fire, Monday, July 29, 2013, at approximately 2 p.m. in the Dunn Loring area of Fairfax County. The office building is located at 2216 Gallows Road.
Firefighters encountered smoke on the top floor of the three-story building upon arrival. Prior to firefighters arriving, an office worker had pulled the building fire alarm, evacuating the occupants. A sprinkler activated containing the fire, allowing firefighters to quickly extinguish the remaining fire. There was also a report of a small explosion on the third floor near the fire. There was extensive water damage on all floors and the basement area. There were no injuries. Workers were allowed back into the building at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Damage is estimated at $250,000.
Fairfax County Police EOD, a Hazardous Materials Unit, and the Fire Marshal's Office all responded to the event. The fire is under investigation.
