Accidental Alexandria Area House Fire

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire, Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at approximately 5:05 a.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family house is located at 3904 Elmwood Drive.
Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from right side and roof of the home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior fire attack and brought the fire under control in less than 10 minutes. The occupants were awakened by a loud outside noise. As the occupants were escaping, smoke alarms sounded. All four occupants escaped unharmed. Two adults and two children have been displaced. Red Cross is supporting the occupants. There were no injuries.
Damage is estimated $75,000.
According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical anomaly ignited an outside electrical meter causing the fire.
