The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will open a new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Training Simulation Center, Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at 11 a.m. The state-of-the-art facility is located at 7921 Jones Branch Drive, Suite 127, McLean, Virginia.

The training facility will offer the latest in technology and provide firefighters and paramedics with the best most realistic hands-on training available. The 4,000 square foot facility is equipped with an ambulance simulator, replicating the inside of a functional ambulance. The second simulation area has been designed as a living room and bedroom, allowing members to operate and perform their EMS skills in a standard, every day setting.

Each simulation room will contain a "sim man and baby," full-body manikins that are able to breathe and speak. The manikins also have heart sounds and a discernable pulse. Paramedics will also be able to practice intubation, CPR, start an IV, and train on other various Advanced Life Support skills. The manikins are operated and controlled remotely throughout each scenario by training staff. The facility will also have a large training and meeting room for use by local residents within the community.

This cutting edge simulation training center will greatly enhance the training capabilities of all firefighters and paramedics, and allow them to provide the best possible care to the residents and visitors of Fairfax County.

Tours and demonstrations will be conducted following the grand opening. Media opportunities will also be available.

Fairfax County is committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of disability in all county programs, services and activities. Reasonable accommodations will be provided upon request. For information, call 703-246-3801 and TTY 703-285-4419.
