The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Virginia Railway Express (VRE) will host a simulated passenger train derailment and multi-casualty exercise. The exercise will take place at 6700 Springfield Center Drive, Sunday, April 30, 2006, at 8 a.m. The multi-agency exercise will bring together over 100 firefighters and emergency medical personnel from various local, state, and federal agencies.
The exercise will involve a simulated VRE passenger train derailment and bombing. Officials from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Fairfax County Police Department, Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Inova Health Care System, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Joint Terrorism Task Force, Virginia Terrorism Taskforce, Chessie Seaboard Railroad (CSX), and more than 60 volunteers will participate as train passenger victims. Evaluators will also participate.
The mutual agency training exercise is designed to evaluate agency emergency preparedness and emergency response.
