The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was selected to receive the Excellence in Career and Technical Education Award by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Education, Monday, June 5, 2006, at Sheraton Richmond West Hotel, 6624 West Broad Street, Richmond.
Since 2004, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the Fairfax County Public Schools, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and Local 2068, Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics have offered a Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire Science curriculum for high school students. Students enrolled in the one-year program can earn certifications in Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B), American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Hazardous Materials Response, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Education award recognizes exemplary projects that promote excellence in career and technical education at the high school level.
