122nd Recruit Firefighter Graduation

Since March 2007, 24 recruit firefighters from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department have been training to respond to hazardous materials incidents, vehicle extrication operations, swift water emergencies, confined space rescue, fire suppression, and emergency medical incidents. The 21-week recruit firefighter/EMT course is both physically and mentally strenuous. Firefighter recruits will officially become professional firefighter/EMTs upon graduation.

Janet Wilmoth, Editorial Director of the FIRE CHIEF publications will be the keynote speaker. Ms. Wilmoth grew up in a family of firefighters in a Chicago suburb. Ms. Wilmoth first worked for FIRE CHIEF in 1986 as an associate editor and also served as FIRE CHIEF’s international correspondent while living in Europe and Asia.

Ms. Wilmoth created In Service for FIRE CHIEF to address increasing issues with apparatus safety and maintenance. She is currently on the Fire Department Safety Officers’ Association’s committee for its annual Apparatus Specification and Maintenance Symposium, serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation and the Home Safety Council’s Development Committee.
