Firefighters Support MDA “Fill the Boot” Fund Drive

Who:

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department

What:

Fund Drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)

When:

Friday, August 31 - Monday, September 3, 2007

Where:

Intersections and high traffic areas throughout Fairfax County

Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics will be highly visible at many Fairfax County road intersections throughout the Labor Day weekend collecting for “Jerry’s Kids” and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

As a nationally recognized supporter of MDA, Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics, with Local 2068 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), will be asking local residents and visitors to help “fill the boot” to support this important cause.

In the metropolitan Washington area, Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics have been MDA’s largest contributor. Firefighters and paramedics would like to remind the residents and visitors of Fairfax County that fire apparatus and uniformed personnel will be collecting in high traffic areas over the Labor Day weekend. Collections are for the sole purpose of helping “Jerry’s Kids.”

The generosity from the community allowed firefighters to collect over $360,000 in 2006. The goal for this year is $375,000.

For more than 50 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters has strongly supported the MDA and helped raised over $250 million
