Firefighters To Distribute School Backpacks and Supplies

Fairfax County firefighters and paramedics and local businesses will be distributing school backpacks and supplies at 11 a.m., Friday, September 7, at Woodlawn Fire and Rescue Station 24.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics, IAFF Local 2068, have been collecting backpacks and school supplies for several weeks and now will be distributing those backpacks throughout Fairfax County and the Washington Metropolitan area to needy school children. Through generous donations and support from businesses, specifically BearingPoint Inc., Greenspring Retirement Community, and Wal-Mart, over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed.

Firefighters are coordinating the distribution of school supplies along with officials from Fairfax County public schools, local community shelters, and community organizations. For more information, please contact Lieutenant Willie Bailey at 703-473-7009.
