The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will recognize Orlando Ventura, Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 1 p.m., for actions taken while rescuing a trapped driver in a pond. He will be presented a Valor Award at Fire and Rescue Station 15, Chantilly.
On January 2, 2008, Ventura saw a vehicle drive into a local pond and quickly submerge near the intersection of Walney Road and Westfields Boulevard. He immediately jumped into the water and pulled and freed the driver from the vehicle and brought him to safety. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, Ventura and the victim were slowly making their way up the steep embankment from the edge of the water seeking help. They were both transported to Inova Fair Oaks Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Ventura's quick thinking and valorous actions without a doubt saved a life.
