The ceremony for the 2008 Career Firefighter of the Year will be held in the Massey Building, A-Level Conference Center at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2008. Cave-In Technician Michael L. Frames, Fire and Rescue Station 39, A-Shift, is the 2008 Career Firefighter of the Year.
Technician Frames, a 26-year veteran, has been an invaluable asset to his fellow crewmembers and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department throughout his career. He is the Battalion Training Officer for Battalion 401, serves on the Swift Water Training Committee, has been certified as an Ice Rescue Instructor, and last year completed Technical Rescue Operations Team (TROT) school.
Technician Frames has represented the department with distinction on and off duty, and has involved himself in the community by participating in unscheduled and scheduled events, including: "Show and Tell," for children and volunteering to be "Sparky" for the Independence Day parade in the City of Fairfax for several years. He has helped care for other members and their families during challenging times and tragedies.
Technician Frames has performed to the highest standard of excellence, and epitomizes selfless service across the board. His attitude, dedication, and enthusiasm are second-to-none.
The Firefighter of the Year Award is the department’s highest award, established in 1985 to provide special recognition for outstanding service and dedication in keeping with the highest traditions of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Technician Michael Frames resides in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife Erica, son Eric, and daughter Michaela.
