The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics, IAFF Local 2068, have been collecting backpacks and school supplies for several weeks and will provide them to school children in need in Fairfax County and the Washington Metropolitan Area. Through generous donations and support from area businesses, including BearingPoint Inc., Nationwide Credit Corporation, Promax Management Inc., and Aluminum Cans for Burned Children, over 650 backpacks were collected and filled with school supplies.

Firefighters will coordinate the distribution of the backpacks and school supplies to Fairfax County public school administrators and community organizations. For more information, please contact Lieutenant Willie Bailey at 571-641-0036.

Firefighters and school officials will be available for interviews.
