MDA is a national voluntary health agency fighting 40 neuromuscular diseases through an unparalleled worldwide research effort, a nationwide program of medical services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. MDA's programs are funded entirely by individual private contributors and businesses. The association seeks no government grants, United Way funds or fees from patients or their families. The annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon energizes a year-round local and national effort that provides the resources for these vital services and programs.
The Fill the Boot campaign is a 52 year old tradition of the International Association of Fire Fighters where Fairfax County Fire & Rescue personnel conduct a Labor Day Weekend street side collection campaign at intersections all over Fairfax County.
Fire Chief Michael P. Neuhard, along with all leadership and members of the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, Local 2068, wish to thank all citizens and visitors to Fairfax County who gave so generously enabling Fairfax County Fire & Rescue to claim the title of 'Most money raised during a Labor Day Weekend Fill the Boot campaign' for 2004 with $342,000, and 2005 with $455,000 going to MDA and $120,000 going to assist Gulf Coast fire and rescue personnel who suffered property loss as a result of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
In 2006, with a strong effort and the continued commitment, we reached our goal of $375,000.
