It’s summer, which means the farmers markets are in full swing. Fairfax County Farmers Markets aim to make healthy food accessible, support local food production and vendors, and protect the environment through the promotion of sustainable farming.

Part of making these things accessible is addressing that buying from smaller vendors can often be more expensive than buying from big-name retailers. That is why select Fairfax County Farmers Markets now offer a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) matching program so members can purchase more for less.

Through this program, SNAP members can charge their EBT card for a chosen amount and receive double that amount in tokens. These tokens can then be used to purchase SNAP-eligible fruits & vegetables from the vendors. With thousands of households enrolled in SNAP in Fairfax County, providing SNAP matching at farmers markets gives thousands of people access to healthy, local products.
