Beulah Road Walkway Project

Project Limits:
Beulah Road from Abbotsford Drive to Coral Crest Lane
Clarks Crossing Road from Brookside Lane to Beulah Road

Project Description:
This project is to provide safe pedestrian access along Beulah Road between Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Regional Park (located at the northern limits near Chathams Ford Drive) and Antioch Christian Church (located at the southern limits near Abbotsford Drive). This project is part of Phase I of the Northern Vienna (NoVi) Trail Network and is based on the NoVi Trail Network Feasibility Study:

Segment A: Walkway on west side of Beulah Road from the end of existing sidewalk near Abbotsford Drive to Clarks Crossing Road, including crosswalk on Clarks Crossing Road

Segment B: Walkway on north side of Clarks Crossing Road from Brookside Lane to the west side of Beulah Road to Beulah/Trap/Old Courthouse Roads (Four Corners) intersection, including crosswalk on Beulah Road and on Trap Road

Segment C: Walkway on east side of Beulah Road from Beulah/Trap/Old Courthouse (Four Corners) intersection to Coral Ridge subdivision trail.

The total project length of proposed walkway (Segments A, B and C) is approximately 5,000 feet. (Vicinity Map)

An additional segment of improvement, Segment D, is being completed as a separate contract, which consists of constructing a ten foot wide asphalt shared-use path on the east side of Beulah Road from the end of the Coral Ridge subdivision trail (near Meadowlark Road) to Meadowlark Gardens/Enterprise School (near Symphony Meadow Lane). The total length of Segment D is approximately 500 feet. Segment D is funded by Transportation Enhancement Funds and construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2010.

The project consists of constructing a six foot wide asphalt walkway along Beulah Road and Clarks Crossing Road, except where a five foot wide concrete sidewalk between Chestnut Farm Drive and Clarks Crossing Road will be constructed. This also includes improving pedestrian access at intersections by adding warning signs and marked crosswalks. This will provide a continuous walkway connection along Beulah Road between Abbotsford Drive and Coral Crest Lane and along Clarks Crossing Road from Beulah Road to Brookside Lane, linking walkway connection to the W&OD Trail. Drainage improvements are also included with this project.

This project is part of the Fairfax County's Second Four-Year Transportation Plan endorsed by the Board of Supervisors on October 15, 2007 funded by the 2007 Transportation Bond Referendum

Project Status:
The project is currently in the design phase. A community meeting was held on June 9, 2010 to present the project design and obtain feedback. Design concerns that were raised at this meeting are currently being addressed.

Project Schedule:
The project design is scheduled to be completed by early-2011. Land acquisition will be required in several areas. Construction is scheduled to begin by late-2011 assuming land rights can be obtained by the middle of 2011. Note that the project schedule is subject to change due to on-going design coordination with various property owners and also due to utility relocations that might be required.
