Shaping Fairfax County's Future Bus Network!

Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) is working to finalize the development of its Comprehensive Transit Plan (CTP), a ten-year aspirational plan for Fairfax Connector and Metrobus service within the County. The CTP builds on the County's 2009 Transit Development Plan (TDP), the previous ten-year plan, and will extend the horizon year from 2020 to 2025.

“Connections 2015,” was launched in September 2014 to gather public feedback on existing bus service and the potential for enhanced and expanded transit services. The results of the first phase of public outreach generated over 600 unique comments from interactive workshops, “pop-up” events and focus groups that were conducted throughout the county. The comments were analyzed, along with a series of other service performance measures, to generate a set of service recommendations for future bus service. These potential changes in the local bus system could directly impact your riding experience with better connections and service!

Latest Project Updates

  • Review the recommendations being considered online!
These recommendations are a part of a larger technical memorandum which details the development of the final CTP recommendations. Public events and workshops were held in May and June 2015 at various locations around the County to present the recommendations and hear your questions and comments. The public was also able to provide feedback online. All of these comments are now being reviewed and considered as part of the next steps.
  • The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is also conducting a study of the 17 and 18 lines in Fairfax County. This study is linked to the “Connections 2015” effort and more details can be found on their project website.
