TextDulles Corridor Metrorail Project
The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (DCMP) is a new 23.1-mile Metro line connecting the Tysons, Reston, Herndon, and Dulles Airport areas of Fairfax County to the regional Metrorail system. The DCMP, also known as the Silver Line, is being constructed by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) in two phases:
Phase 1 extends Metrorail from the existing Orange Line in Falls Church to Wiehle Avenue in Reston with four stations in Tysons. The expected completion date for construction of Phase 1 is August 2013 with passenger service starting in December 2013. Phase 1 Silver Line stations, from east to west:
- McLean Station
- Tysons Corner Station
- Greensboro Station
- Spring Hill Station
- Wiehle - Reston East Station
Phase 2 will extend Metrorail through Reston, Herndon, and Dulles Airport to Route 772/Ashburn in Loudoun County. Phase 2 preliminary engineering is complete; passenger service is planned to start in 2018. Phase 2 Silver Line stations in Fairfax County, from east to west:
- Reston Town Center Station
- Herndon Station
- Innovation Center Station
