Fairfax Connector to Absorb Centreville and Chantilly Metrobus Service Effective Monday, June 29, 2009

Fairfax County will absorb the Metrobus 2W, 12 and 20 lines into the Fairfax Connector bus system starting Monday, June 29, 2009. This will give the County greater flexibility in determining the levels and types of bus service it can provide to county residents, and allow for future expansion of service at a lower cost than if provided by WMATA.

A total of 15 Metrobus routes in Centreville, Chantilly and Oakton are being converted to Fairfax Connector routes with new route numbers and improved schedules.  These routes provide rush hour bus service between west county neighborhoods and the Vienna Metrorail Station.  Public meetings were held last year to gather input from existing riders, and changes were made to include more evening and midday service.  The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the final plan in February 2008.

The Metrobus routes which will be changing are:

2W, 12A, 12C, 12D, 12E, 12F, 12G, 12L, 12M, 12R, 12S, 20F, 20W, 20X, 20Y

The basic fare will be $1.25 with a SmarTrip card or $1.35 if paying with cash.  Information about the new route numbers and schedules is available online at www.fairfaxconnector.com or by calling 703-339-7200, TTY 711.
