Grand Jury, Interim Grand Jury and Term Day
Schedule
Grand Jury meets the 3rd Monday of every odd-numbered month (January, March, May, July, September and November) and Criminal Term Day is held at 10:00 a.m. the next day. Interim Grand Jury meets the 3rd Monday of every even-numbered month (February, April, June, August, October and December) and is for those individuals who are incarcerated at the time of their preliminary hearing. There is no Term Day following Interim Grand Jury because trial dates are set at the preliminary hearing.
Exceptions:
- Should Grand Jury or Interim Grand Jury fall on a state holiday, it will commence the next business day and Term Day will follow on the next day after Grand Jury.
- In the event that Grand Jury falls during a mandatory judicial conference (usually in May), please contact the Clerk's Office for actual Grand Jury and Term Day dates.
Procedures
It is imperative that all defendants on bond and their attorneys appear for Term Day. The purpose of Term Day is to set Circuit Court trial dates and to set them within the term of court and not beyond.
Bench warrants will be issued for those defendants who fail to appear on Term Day. Individuals incarcerated for charges pending at Grand Jury, and who already have a trial date scheduled, will not appear for Term Day. If it is necessary to set a trial date for a person incarcerated, the Clerk's Office will notify the Sheriff's Office so the defendant will be brought to the Term Day proceeding.
