Fairfax County Sends Letter on Dulles Rail
Project to FTA
- Wiehle Ave/Reston Pkwy Station Access Management Study - Fairfax County moves ahead to develop a plan for station access management and traffic improvements at the Wiehle Avenue Metrorail station
The Dulles Rail Project
The extension of the Metrorail system has been selected as the locally preferred alternative (LPA) for rapid transit in the Dulles Corridor. The planned 23+ mile extension will originate from the Orange Line between East and West Falls Church Metro stations and will pass through the Tysons Corner area to Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County. Due to the federal funding constraint, a two phased approach to the project has been proposed. Phase 1 will complete the extension to Wiehle Avenue in Reston, with Phase 2 extending to Dulles Airport and ending at Route 772 in Loudoun. For more details on rail to Dulles, visit the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation or the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project home page.
Phase 1 Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District
In a petition to the Board of Supervisors, commercial and industrial property owners requested the establishment of the Phase 1 Dulles Rail Transportation Improvement District to help pay for Fairfax County's share of the capital costs of the extension of Metrorail service in the Dulles Corridor. The district was approved by the Board in its regular meeting on February 23, 2004. (Item 63 in the meeting summary)
