Braddock Road and Route 123 Interchange Study
A study is being performed by a consultant for the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) to develop a long-term conceptual design plan for an interchange at Route 123/Braddock Road and possible interim improvements at this intersection. The interchange study will present conceptual engineering design alternatives for a grade-separated interchange, with the goal of minimizing right-of-way requirements and other impacts of the proposed interchange in the adjacent area. The interim improvement study will develop recommendations to improve current congestion, turning movements and signalization. The limit of study for Braddock Road is from Shadow Valley Drive to Sideburn Road, and for Route 123 is from University Drive to Marlborough Road. This feasibility study will identify right-of-way needs for interim roadway improvements and the proposed interchange and will identify any needed operational modifications.
Presentation to the George Mason-Braddock District Community Forum
On October 15, 2008, a presentation was made to the George Mason University (GMU)/Braddock Community forum . The meeting was attended by Supervisor Bulova, Supervisor Herrity, Delegate Bulova, representatives of GMU and University Mall, and leaders of the community. At the meeting, five preliminary design alternatives for a future interchange at Braddock Road and Route 123 were discussed. A link to the slides that were presented during the meeting is provided below. Future public meetings are planned to discuss the findings of the study, as the alternatives are refined. If you have any questions or comments on the preliminary alternatives presentation, please contact your district office.
