HOV, or High Occupancy Vehicle lanes
are available to ridesharers on Interstates 66, 95 and 395 and on Route
267 (the Dulles Toll Road) in Fairfax County. Vehicles must have a
minimum number of occupants to travel on these lanes during peak
commuting hours. Since vehicle occupancy is restricted in the HOV lanes,
traffic moves faster than in the regular traffic lanes.
For HOV-2, there must be at least two people in the car. The minimum requirement for HOV-3 is three people.
