Personal Preparedness Workshop
When: Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active Status (all basic training completed)
Topic: This training provides an overview of personal and family emergency preparedness. It emphasizes the importance of personal and family emergency preparedness and describes the steps to becoming personally prepared.

Public Health Recovery from Disasters for MRC
When: Wednesday, August 20, 2014, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m
Where: Webinar
Membership Requirement: Active Status (all basic training completed)
Topic: This webinar involves volunteers in an informative two hour webinar covering public health response after any emergency.

FEMA IS 100
When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (offered through OEM)
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Perspective and pending volunteers welcome.

Deafness and Hearing Loss: The Communication Challenges for Emergency Responders
When: Thursday, September 18, 2014, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active Status (all basic training completed)
Topic: Emergencies can pose many challenges for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing due to their unique communication needs, and they may not always self-identify as having impaired hearing. This presentation will provide information about some ways to recognize individuals with hearing loss and some strategies for effective communication in emergency situations.

MRC Orientation
When:Thursday, September 25, 2014, 7 – 9 p.m.
Where: Fairfax County Springfield Board of Supervisors community room, Springfield, Va.
Membership Requirement:  Perspective and pending volunteers welcome.

Topic: Introduces new & perspective members to the role of the Fairfax County Medical Reserve Corps and the Fairfax County Health Department in the event of a public health emergency.

Intro to Interpreting for Emergency Responders
When: Saturday, October 18, 2014, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active status, successful completion of pre-course language assessment, and willingness to serve as interpreter for emergencies

ICS Safety Officer Orientation
When: Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 6:30 –9:30 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active status (all basic training completed)

FEMA IS 700 and IS 100
When: Saturday, December 13, 2014, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: All pending volunteers. Orientation recommended.

MRC Orientation
When: Wednesday, December 17, 2014, 7 – 9 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Perspective and pending volunteers welcome.

Basic Training

All Fairfax MRC members must complete an application and the Basic Training Requirements  to be considered an Active Level volunteer and participate in any MRC-related activity. Basic Training Requirements include the following classes:

  • MRC 101: Orientation
  • FEMA IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction; offered online.
  • FEMA IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System; offered online.
