Mass Fatality Response for MRC (CANCELLED)
When: Wednesday, April 23, 3-5 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active Status
Topics:

  • The types of events that may result in multiple fatalities
  • The comparison and contrast of medical examiner operations in routine and mass fatality situations
  • The stations which may be established to process multiple fatalities
  • The identification and description of possible contributions of volunteers in mass fatality

Adult Mental Health First Aid
When: 
April 24 AND 25, 2014, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (with a 30 minute break for lunch)
Where: 8350 Richmond Highway, Room 221A/B; Alexandria, Va. 22309
Topic: This interactive 8-hour certification course introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and gives an overview of common treatments. Specifically, MHFA participants learn:

  • Potential risk factors and warning signs for mental health problems, including: depression, anxiety/trauma, psychosis, substance use disorders, and self-injury.
  • An understanding of the prevalence of mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need for reduced stigma in their communities.
  • A 5-step action plan to help the individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional care.
  • The evidence-based professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available in our community to help someone with a mental health problem.

Membership Requirement: Active status

Public Health Recovery from Natural Disasters (CANCELLED)  
When: Tuesday, April 29, 6 - 8 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Topic: Video Teleconference training offered through the Virginia MRC program.
Membership Requirement: Active Status

Boot Camp
When: May 17, 2014

  • FEMA IS-700/100: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Personal Preparedness Workshop: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • ICS Review: 1 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Badging Session (by appoinment only): 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirements: Active status for all except IS-700/100, which is open to prospective and pending volunteers.

Medical Surge for Community Events: Boston Marathon
When: Thursday, June 19, 6 – 8 p.m.
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Membership Requirement: Active Status (Video Teleconference training offered through the Virginia MRC program.)

Environmental Health Overview
When: June 24, 2014
Where: Fairfax City, Va.
Topic: Short presentation on the Fairfax County Environmental Health division.
Membership Requirements:
Active status

Basic Training

All Fairfax MRC members must complete an application and the Basic Training Requirements  to be considered an Active Level volunteer and participate in any MRC-related activity. Basic Training Requirements include the following classes:

  • MRC 101: Orientation
  • FEMA IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction; offered online.
  • FEMA IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System; offered online.
