Internships and Student Placements
The Fairfax County Health Department offers several experiential learning opportunities designed to advance public health knowledge and understanding of the intersection of local government and community. Now is a great time to join the public health field. We accept applications for student placements for Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Fairfax County Health Department internships and clinical hours rotations are unpaid.
An affiliation agreement with a university or institution must be in place in advance of the onset of the internship or placement.
Hours, location and scope of project will be determined by the school requirements, intern needs, and sponsor availability.

How to Get Started:
- Review requirements and deadlines.
- For academic credit, you must be enrolled in a program requiring an internship or practicum hours. Confirm that your school/organization has an affiliation agreement in place with FCHD. Questions can be emailed to HDinternships@fairfaxcounty.gov.
- Submit your resume, cover letter and written program requirements to HDinternships@fairfaxcounty.gov.
The internship process is competitive, and candidates are selected based on applicable experience, academic performance, and professional skills which best matches the needs of the project/placement.
