Fairfax County to Participate in the First Regional Affordable Housing Expo

On Saturday, June 25, 10 a.m.to 4 p.m., Fairfax County will join with the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance (NVAHA), the counties of Arlington and Loudoun; the Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church; the Town of Herndon; Cardinal Bank, and George Mason Mortgage, to jointly host the Northern Virginia Housing Opportunities Expo, the area’s first annual regional affordable housing expo.  The event will be held at T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22301.

“Expo 2011 provides Fairfax County and its partners a unique opportunity to come together and reach thousands of households in need of affordable housing options across a range of incomes,” said Paula C. Sampson, Director, HCD.  “We are a proud partner in this endeavor and look forward to bringing future Expos to the residents of Fairfax County and the Northern Virginia region.”

Expo 2011 will showcase both rental and homeownership opportunities for individuals and families across a spectrum of income levels.  Workshops will also be offered covering such topics as financial planning, credit repair, what buyers need to know before purchasing a foreclosure and improving livability through design and accessibility concepts.

In addition to workshops, approximately 100 vendors including area nonprofits, local governments and lending institutions will be available to provide attendees with a wealth of information on housing programs, financing, and rental and homeownership options.

The Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance is a regional nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and community benefits of a diversity of housing choices for all incomes.  Platinum sponsors of Expo 2011 include: Capital One; Chase; PNC Bank and the Virginia Housing and Development Authority.
