Up to $8.8 Million Available for Affordable Housing Development

Housing Blueprint, Federal Funds Available on First-Come Basis through Dec. 31; Developer Dialogue to be Held Aug. 14

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announces the availability of up to $8.8 million* in local and federal funds for the development of affordable housing in Fairfax County. HCD will be accepting applications from experienced developers on a first-come, first-served rolling basis beginning on August 1 and ending on December 31. The available funding is provided to further the goals of the FY 2015 Housing Blueprint.

There are two separate applications:

  • Multifamily Projects (six or more units) will apply via the Fairfax County Affordable Housing Partnership Program (http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rha/ahpp.htm).  Click here for more information. Multifamily projects using local funds will be expected to leverage resources; the maximum local subsidy per unit will be capped at $50,000.  Multifamily projects are expected to use combination with other sources such as private equity and financing and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to successfully complete proposed projects.

  • Scattered Site Projects (five units or fewer) will apply utilizing the application materials available here.  Scattered site projects using federal funding must serve seniors, the homeless and persons with disabilities, with a preference for projects serving persons in these populations with extremely low incomes (30 percent of Area Median Income and below).  Projects serving senior/homeless and/or persons with disabilities with extremely low incomes may be considered for 100 percent funding.  Further information is available here.

A “Developer Dialogue” event on this funding opportunity will be held Thursday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m.

The August 14 Developer Dialogue will be held at the offices of the Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development, 3700 Pender Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030, in the HCD Center from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Space is limited: If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by August 11 to 703-246-5260, TTY: 703-385-3578 or rha@fairfaxcounty.gov.

*Note: The availability of approximately $1.4 million in federal funding is subject to Board of Supervisors action on the FY 2014 Budget Carryover Review on September 9.
