Zion Drive Project
Description
Improvements are proposed to enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety on Zion Drive from Windsor Hills Drive (Route 7754) to Jib Lane. The scope includes an increase in the radius of the existing curve, installation of dedicated pedestrian walkway on both sides of the road, curb, gutter and storm drainage improvements.
The project cost of approximately $1.4 million is funded from a November 2007 Transportation Bond. The project is being managed jointly by the Fairfax County Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services.
Schedule
The project design has been completed and the construction contract has been awarded. To expedite construction, the road will be closed to all traffic except property access. Closure is approximately between Windsor Hills Drive and Jib Lane. Through traffic will be detoured. Construction is scheduled to start June 22, 2011. Estimated completion date is about twelve months from the start of construction; however, traffic lanes are expected to be open by September 2, 2011.
Detour
Complete closure of the road to traffic is to be expected between Jib lane and Windsor Hills Drive from the start of construction until September 2, 2011. During construction, through traffic will be detoured; however, access will be provided to the residents and the residential communities along Zion Drive, The Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, and the David R. Pinn Community Center. Westbound traffic from Guinea Road will be detoured to Roberts Road and eastbound traffic on Zion Road (coming from Ox Road) will be detoured to Roberts Road and Guinea Road.
