Today there is a critical shortage
of organs and tissue needed for transplants. More than 100,000 Americans are
waiting for organ transplant while hundreds of thousands more need tissue
transplants. Tragically, many die each year because the organs or tissue
they need are not available. You can help save lives by becoming an organ
and tissue donor.
The Fairfax County Commission on Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation
is dedicated to increasing the awareness of all citizens of Fairfax County regarding
organ and tissue donation and transplantation through education and coordination
of resources in a way which will result in increased organ and tissue donations
in the county. This Commission was created by the Board
of Supervisors in 1994. It is the first of its kind to be set up by a local government
in the United States, and serves as a model for local commissions being created
throughout the country.
Fairfax County citizens are encouraged to
call Washington Regional Transplant Community at 703-641-0100
or 1-866-BE A DONOR 1-866-232-3666 for more information on
dontation.
