Early S.M.I.L.E.s

15 months to 36 months
The Early S.M.I.L.E.s program is an integrated play program for toddlers 15-36 months with and without  disabilities and their parents. From the "Good Morning Song" to the "Goodbye Song", toddlers can participate in a variety of activities and fun that encourage early social development in a supported play enviornment.  The program operates on select Saturdays during the fall, winter and spring from 9am-10am.

Summer Adventure Camp

Ages: 5-12 (for participants who have completed kindergarten and have ED, LD, ADHD, or ADD)

Summer Camp is an Adventure!

This high-energy program is full of sports, fitness, games, social activities, community outings and structured free-choice activities. With a staff to participant ratio of 1:4, the summer Adventure program is recommended for elementary aged individuals with a specific learning disability such as attention deficit disorder and/or and emotional disability. Individuals eligible for this program are typically more independent in their activities of daily living.

Round trip transportation is provided from a neighborhood stop to the assigned program location.  The camp cost is $80 per week.  A sliding fee scale and scholarships are available.  The six-week Summer Adventure Program runs from June 30, 2014 through August 7, 2014 (no program on July 4th, 2014), Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Early drop off hours begin at 8:30 a.m.

S.M.I.L.E

Saturday Morning Integrated Leisure Experience
Ages: 3-5 (Preschool)

The S.M.I.L.E. program is an integrated play program for children with and without disabilities. From the "Good-Morning Song" to the "Good-Bye Song", children can participate in a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, sports, group games, and more! S.M.I.L.E. encourages appropriate social and behavioral interactions in a structured play environment. S.M.I.L.E. operates on Saturday mornings from 10am-1pm at the Reston Teen Center and Gum Springs Community Center during the fall, winter, and spring. Program cost is $60.00 per session. Saturday Leisure

Ages: 6-22  (must have completed kindergarten)

The Saturday Leisure program provides opportunities to participate in new and fun recreation activities in a structured and engaging group setting. It is designed to support school aged individuals with low to moderate Intellectual Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. The program runs from 11 a.m. to 4p.m. on select Saturday’s and operates in four four-week sessions starting in October at 3 schools in Fairfax County.  

Participation requirements
Saturday Leisure Participants must:
Be able to interact safely with peers

-   Follow staff directions with moderate prompts
-   Be willing to try a variety of activities and
-   Participate appropriately in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio

Note: participants who are currently exhibiting frequent aggressive behaviors that are deemed harmful or injurious to others or who require a 1:1 for extended periods of time may need more support than the Saturday Leisure program is designed to provide.  If you are unsure if your son/daughter will be successful in this program, please call the main TRS offices and an initial eligibility assessment can be conducted.  TRS understands that behaviors change over time therefore reevaluation for program placement is available on a semi-annual basis.

Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Once we meet our program capacity, individuals will be placed on our waiting list. If you are placed on the waiting list and a place opens up you will be notified immediately.
