Camp Fairfax

Salary: $17.44 per hour (May increase based on applicable and relevant experience.)

Status: Part-time, Temporary (Summer – mid- May through mid- Aug.)

Location: Various locations throughout Fairfax County. (Apply early to increase your chances of working near your home.)

Description: Looking for a fun and meaningful summer job? Camp Fairfax is seeking Summer Camp Counselors to lead and support daily camp programs for youth and teens. This position offers hands-on experience, leadership development, and the opportunity to make a positive impact while having fun. 

  • Activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, music, and field trips
  • Programs take place both indoors and outdoors
  • Ideal for students or young adults interested in recreation, education, youth development, or special education
  • Day camps only; no overnight stays

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Organize and lead youth and teen activities
  • Encourage participation and positive engagement
  • Supervise campers during programs, field trips, and special events
  • Support inclusive camp environments for participants of all abilities
  • Work as part of a team to ensure a safe and enjoyable camp experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within the first month of employment
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and Child Protective Services Registry check

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to participate in active indoor and outdoor programs
  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage with campers for extended period

Provide participant supervision and support. This active position offers hands-on experience, leadership development, and the opportunity to make a positive impact while having fun.

  • Activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, music, and more
  • Ideal for students or young adults interested in recreation, education, youth development, or special education
  • Day camps only - Monday - Friday; no overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate activities for school aged campers with varying intellectual, physical, sensory, and/or emotional disabilities
  • Assist with program planning and camp room management
  • Provide participant supervision and support, to include assistance with personal care for campers
  • Supervise campers during programs
  • Support inclusive camp environments for participants of all abilities
  • Work as part of a team to ensure a safe and enjoyable camp experience
  • Monitor and observe the activities of program participants

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate
  • Must have completed at least 250 hours of experience in recreation or a school setting serving individuals with disabilities. (College course work can supplement experience.)
  • Must have CPR/First Aid certification (Certification training can be provided by NCS upon request.)
  • Must pass a criminal background check and Child Protective Services Registry check

Physical Requirements:

  • Position is active in nature
  • Regularly move around to supervise and interact with participants at their level
  • Occasionally lift, transport, position, push/pulls or move up to 50 pounds
  • Possess sufficient mobility and a range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting
  • Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of a program participant
  • Requires the ability to apply CPR and First Aid skills as needed and respond to emergency situations
  • Administrative and supervisory activities will require the ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
