The Mission of the Food
Safety Section is to prevent foodborne illness by ensuring that foods
prepared and served by food establishments located in Fairfax County,
Falls Church City and Fairfax City are safe, unadulterated, and prepared
under sanitary conditions and by educating food establishments and the
general public of safe food handling practices providing a healthy dining
experience. Food Safety Section mission is accomplished by providing the
following services:
- Reviewing of food establishment plans and conducting pre-operational inspections.
- Conducting routine inspections to approximately 3200 permitted food establishments to include restaurants, convenience stores, hospital kitchens, mobile units and temporary food events.
- Responding to citizen complaints.
- Investigate food-borne illness outbreaks to determine source and stop the spread of disease.
