The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors proclaimed February 2026 Black History Month.The Board of Supervisors designated February 2026 as Black History Month in Fairfax County. Click photo to open high-resolution version.At the Supervisors’ Feb. 3, 2026, meeting, Franconia Supervisor Rodney Lusk read the proclamation on behalf of the Board and reflected on lessons from his grandparents that he carries forth as the first Black male County Supervisor. Leadership Fairfax CEO Kia Cole-Hines, accepted the proclamation for the Inclusive Leader Institute, the County’s only forward-facing program designed to promote One Fairfax beyond county government. The 2026 Black History Month theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations: Promote, Protect, Preserve.” This is a call to action to preserve the history and memory of Black life, the proclamation states. The community is invited to join NCS and county leaders on Friday, February 20, 2026, for "Unite, Uplift and Celebrate!" a Black History Month celebration at 5 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Pwky., Fairfax. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors declared Jan. 20, 2026, as a Day of Racial Healing in Fairfax County. Providence Supervisor Dalia A. Palchik presented the proclamation to NCS Equity Manager Ramona Carroll at the “Truth in Voice, Truth in Service” event at Jim Scott Community Center on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.Providence Supervisor Dalia A. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) initiative, which aims to repair the damages caused by racism, promote trust and create connections for a more equitable society. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is committed to racial healing and equity through Fairfax County’s One Fairfax policy and NCS’ Mission, Vision and Values.“Truth in Voice, Truth in Service” is an annual gathering of youth to promote connection through discussion and community service.
