In partnership with local grocery stores, volunteers, and community organizations, the program collects non-perishable food items and gift cards at various locations throughout the county. This collaboration helps keep the shelves of local pantries and food providers stocked throughout the year. This year's event is presented in partnership with Fairfax County Department of Transportation, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and MV Transportation, Inc. Fairfax County leaders and community members gathered at the Fairfax County Government Center on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, to honor Black History Month at the “Unite, Uplift & Celebrate!” event.Jernita Smith (NCS); Chelsi Conaway (NCS); Emma Marshall (Retired); Andrea Richardson (Community Member); Ramona Carroll (NCS Equity Manager); Paul Woods (Retired); Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity; Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk; Nelfred “Tilly” Blanding (Retired); Board of Supervisors Chair Jeffrey McKay; Dale T. Wallace (Retired); Fairfax County Executive Bryan Hill; Dranesville District Supervisor James Beirman; and Fairfax County Chief Equity Officer Toni Zollicoffer. Trevor Black, Pastor of Peace Baptist Church in Dunn Loring. The invocation was given by Rev. Dr. Keith E. Donaldson Sr., Senior Pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Herndon. County leaders giving remarks included Board Chair Jeffrey McKay, Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk and County Executive Bryan Hill.The community enjoyed entertainment by saxophonist Tony Craddock, singer Nikki Joy Brown (The Culture Cup), musical group Mobile Joy, poet Bennie Herron, comedian Roxanne David (“Miss Clareese”), Lady Wolves Step Team (Westgate SACC) and Lady Panthers Cheer Team (Gum Springs Community Center).The Board of Supervisors proclaimed February 2026 Black History Month in Fairfax County at their Feb. 3, 2026, meeting. The Braddock District community is invited to learn more about Fairfax County Government and issues important to the area at the Braddock Neighborhood College program that begins in March.The free, six-session certificate program will feature guest speakers, interactive activities, breakout room discussions, networking opportunities, and information about advisory boards and other volunteer opportunities.Braddock Neighborhood College graduates will:Learn how Fairfax County Government works and how to get involved.Understand demographic profiles and trends within a community context.Explore topics that impact the social and economic well-being of the neighborhoods and communities.Apply principles and strategies for inclusive community engagement and outreach.Enhance leadership and problem-solving skills to improve neighborhood livability.The program is sponsored by Braddock District Supervisor Rachna Sizemore Heizer in partnership with Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS).
