Back-up Child Care
Back-up child care services are invaluable to employees when their child care arrangements break down or are temporarily unavailable. Their family child care provider or nanny, for example, may be away on vacation or sick. They may be in between child care arrangements, needing care until their new child care is available.
In Fairfax County, corporations have begun to contract with child care services in order to assist their employees in finding and sometimes paying for these back-up services. There are three ways employers offer back-up care:
Contract with an existing child care center offering a traditional
year round program that may have limited spaces available for back-up
care. The employees' children then join other children who are
enrolled in the program on the days the family needs the back-up
care.
Contract with a center that specializes in back-up child care.
For example, Bright Horizons Family Solutions (1-800-453-9383 ext. 1600).
Contract with a company, such as a "nanny" agency, that will arrange for someone to come to the employee's home to provide back-up care.
