Head Start is a national child development program that serves income-eligible expectant parents and families with children birth through five years of age. Families participating in Head Start receive assistance with:

Head Start
  • Child education and development.
  • Social services.
  • Health services (medical, dental, nutrition, mental health, and prenatal care).
  • Parent education.
  • Family literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL).

Who is eligible?

Eligibility for Head Start is based upon local and federal income and child age requirements. Ten percent of Head Start enrollment is to serve children with special needs. Children with disabilities are integrated into the Head Start Program.
