Our Earth Matters: Exploring the Natural World |

We're looking forward to a great year in SACC as we explore the natural world and gain a better understanding of why “Our Earth Matters.” Throughout the 2009-10 school year, the SACC community will be rolling up its sleeves and joining forces with the global community to help sustain our planet. Children will have many opportunities to observe and enjoy the wonders of nature. As they begin to understand and appreciate the natural world, they will discover ways to reuse, restore, sustain, consume less and protect the environment. Children will enjoy creek walks, water testing, soil testing, community clean-up projects, fitness hikes, nature journaling, insect identification, animal tracking, gardening, recycling, bird watching and much more. These hands-on experiences will encourage children to become lifelong environmental stewards who will make a difference in the preservation of the earth. As the well known Native American proverb states, “We do not inherit the land from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” The study of the natural world will continue in SACC’s upcoming full-day programs. This year’s winter program will be an “Arctic Blast” as children experience the chill of winter through hands-on experiments with ice. During the spring program, centers will celebrate Arbor Day with a weeklong celebration of trees and their importance to our environment.
