IFEL Online is the Office for Children’s Institute for Early Learning online registration system. It offers 24-hour access to Fairfax County child care professionals.
How can I receive a personal copy of the training catalog in the mail?
If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please call 703-324-3044.
Is my personal information secure?
Yes. Your contact information and training history will not be disclosed to anyone outside the Office for Children without your permission. You have the right to see and correct any information you have provided.
Registration Questions:
How do I register online?
If this is your first time using online registration:1. Type your registration ID number and the last four digits of your home number into the spaces provided. Click "Continue."
2. You will be prompted to change your PIN. Type the last four digits of your home phone number (old PIN number) then enter the new PIN number you have chosen twice. Your PIN number must be four digits long. Staff cannot reset or tell you your password if you forget it so please write it down and keep it in a safe place.
3. Click "Complete." Click here to go to IFEL Online.
How do I register using automated telephone registration?
Make a list of the course numbers you would like to attend. Call 703-324-4018 from any touch-tone phone. The recorded voice will provide some information before you begin the registration process.
1. Enter your registration ID number.
2. If you have a PIN number from registering online, enter it. If you do not have a pin number, enter the last four digits of your home phone number.
3. Listen to the options carefully and completely. Press 2 to enroll in training.
How many times can I register?
You only need to complete this process once. After you've enrolled, you will login with your registration ID and the PIN number that you created during this process, and from this point forward you will log in by going to the login page. Click here to be taken directly to the IFEL Online login.
Why can’t I register?
One of the following may be the cause:
1. You may have entered the registration ID number or the last four digits of your home phone number incorrectly. Check to make sure you have typed it correctly.
2. You may have already accessed the system, and have changed your temporary PIN number. Go to the IFEL Online login and enter your registration ID and the new PIN number that you created. If you have forgotten your PIN click here.
3. There may be a problem with the registration ID number or we may have a different home phone number in the database. Please contact the registrar for assistance.4. You have forgotten your registration ID number and/or PIN number. You will be prompted to enter the e-mail address that you used to register. Click here.
Why do I need an e-mail address?
In order to receive e-mail confirmation of course enrollments and cancellations as well as recover a lost PIN number or registration ID number you must have a personal e-mail address.
Can I share an e-mail account with my co-workers?
No. Your e-mail address must be unique to ensure account security.

Why can’t I login?
Make sure you are registered to use the online system. If so, you may have entered the registration ID number or the last four digits of your home phone number incorrectly.
I can't find, or did not receive a registration number; what should I do?
The registration ID number is on the upper right-hand corner of the mailing label on your training catalog. If you do not have one or need assistance, call 703-324-3044 to speak with the registrar.
I forgot my PIN number. How do I get it?
Click here to retrieve your PIN number. You will be prompted to enter the e-mail address that you used to register. Staff cannot reset or access passwords.
What if I don't have an e-mail address?
There are many Internet service providers that offer free e-mail services. After you set up an e-mail account, call 703-324-3044 to have the registrar enter it into the system.
How do I change my PIN number?
After you login, click the "Edit Personal Information" button. Click "Change PIN" located in the upper right hand corner of the Edit User screen.
Type the last four digits of your home phone number (old PIN number) then enter your new PIN number twice. Your PIN number must be four digits long. Click "IFEL-Home" when you are finished.
Enrollment Questions:
How do I enroll in training courses?
Click the "Add Course "button in the upper right-hand side of your home screen and select the course title in which you wish to enroll. Click "enroll." You are not enrolled until you have clicked the ''Complete” button on the bottom of the confirmation screen.
I just registered and when I login it says: "You are not currently enrolled in any courses."
If you see this on your screen, it means that you haven't started registering for any of your courses yet. To view the courses click on "Add Course" and you will see the list of courses. Select a course for more information.
I want to enroll in a course but the button says "Waitlist?"
Seating is limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If space becomes available prior to the first day of class, the registrar will notify you in advance.
Technical Questions:
What are "Cookies?"
Cookies are messages (files) written in your browser by a server. When you return to a Web page, your browser sends the "cookie" information to the server. This information identifies you, and your preferences, making it possible to alter a Web site to your needs.Cookies for this site are temporarily written to your computer's memory. Only if you choose to save your username and password on the login screen will cookies be written to your hard drive.
Why must I have cookies enabled?
Cookies are used to ensure the privacy of your account when you enter secure parts of our site. Cookies allow you to login, enroll in courses, and access your personal information. When you quit your browser, the cookie will be erased from memory unless you select the checkbox on the login screen to save the cookie information on your hard drive.
How do I enable cookies?
To enable cookies in Internet Explorer 6.0:1. Choose "Tools" from the top menu.
2. Select "Internet Options."
3. Select the Privacy Tab.
4. Click the "Advanced" button.
5. In the "Advanced Privacy Settings" dialog box, check to ensure that the slider is set to Medium High, Medium, Low or Accept All Cookies. If your slider is set to one of these settings, keep the "Advanced Privacy Settings" dialog box open and continue to step 6. If your slider is set to High, or to Block all cookies, you will need to set it to: Medium High, Medium, Low or Accept All Cookies in order to login to the Web site.
6. In the "Advanced Privacy Settings" dialog box, click the "Advanced" button.
7. If there is a check in the box next to "Override automatic cookie handling," uncheck it and Internet Explorer will manage cookies for you based on the settings set by the slider in step 5 above. If you want to manage your cookie settings, leave the checkmark and continue to step 8.
8. The radio button to the left of Accept, under "First Party Cookies," must be selected, AND/OR the check-box to the left of "Always allow session cookies" must be checked. You can have both options set.
