Renewing Your Permit


Requirements

You will receive a yellow postcard in the mail two months before your permit expires. To renew your permit, you will need:

• To complete the information on the yellow card and mail it, with your renewal fee, to the Fairfax County Office for Children.
• A home health and safety visit from the child care specialist.
• A fire safety visit from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue department.
• Up-to-date fire drill records.
• Up-to-date pediatric CPR and first aid certificates.
• To show proof from a doctor that for all adults providing care are free of tuberculosis.
• Twelve hours of professional development training if this is your first renewal; six hours of training every year after that.
• Up-to-date children’s immunizations for your own children and the children in your care.
• Up-to-date rabies records for pets.
• Child Protective Services checks for everyone in your home age 14 or older.
• Criminal background checks and a Sworn Statement/Affirmation form for all adults in the home or caring for children (for first renewal and every five years after that).
• An written emergency plan and emergency supplies.

You will receive your permit when all of the above items are received or completed. If there are missing items, your permit will not be issued.
