Early Head Start Child Care
If your child is 6 weeks to 28 months old, and/or you are pregnant, you may be eligible to enroll your child in the Fairfax County Early Head Start program. To be eligible, you must:
- Live in Fairfax County
- Work or go to school
- Receive TANF
- Have a family income that falls within the federal poverty guidelines
Early Head Start offers quality family child care, and:
- Services for children with special needs
- Vision and hearing screenings
- Volunteer opportunities for parents
- Referrals to job training and other community services
- Parenting workshops
Family child care providers:
- Serve children healthy food through the USDA Food Program
- Are legally authorized to provide child care
- Have been trained in child development
- Are certified in CPR and first aid
- Receive visits from child care specialists
- Care for small groups of children in their homes
- Participate in Fairfax County's child care subsidy program
