Armstrong SACC Wins a Visit from Washington Capitals Goalie, Michal Neuvirth
|
Congratulations to the Armstrong School Age Child Care program in Reston for being the January Caps@School contest winners. On Wednesday, February 29, they enjoyed a visit from the Washington Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth and mascot, Slapshot, as well as a lunch from Chipotle. Neuvirth answered questions from the children, posed for pictures and handed out an autographed card to each child. Christine Lamkin, Center Supervisor, entered Armstrong SACC in the Caps@School program put on by the Washington Capitals. The program is designed to assist area elementary school educators with resources that teach math, language, art, science, health and physical education. The program uses the sport of hockey and the Washington Capitals as a way to teach the curriculum. The Armstrong SACC center is participating in the Health Fitness Plan part of the program. The children work on eight areas of fitness from groin stretches, to jumping rope. Their goal is individual improvement from week to week. Lamkin also created a Capital players' stories binder which the children enjoy reading during their daily LIFT (Literacy Is Fun Too) time.
