Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is holding Open Hire events in September at locations countywide. Interested applicants should bring several copies of their resume, and be prepared to interview on the spot for part-time jobs in School Age Child Care (SACC) and recreation. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed September Hunger Action Month. Hunger Action Month is a national campaign to raise awareness and inspire people to take action for those facing food insecurity. NCS and our food access partners will present a one-day Stuff the Bus food drive on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025. Fastran buses, along with Fairfax County Fire Department trucks, will be at several sites from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. for this Hunger Action Month event to combat hunger. Please consider donating non-perishable food items and gift cards at the below locations: Lidl, 9001 White Spruce Way, Lorton, VA 22079 Giant, 2425 Centreville Road, Herndon, VA  20171 Walmart Supercenter, 11181 US-29, Fairfax VA 22030 Giant, 1454 Chain Bridge Rd, McLean, VA 22101 Giant, 1450 North Point Village Center, Reston, VA 20194 Giant, 7137 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003 Walmart, 4368 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, VA 20151 Giant, 7501 Huntsman Blvd., Springfield, VA 22153  Since launching in 2011, Stuff the Bus has collected more than 240 tons of food to feed people experiencing food insecurity in Fairfax County. Statistics show the need for food is great, and demand is increasing. In Fairfax County 27% of people are food insecure, meaning that they have limited or uncertain availability to the food needed to live their fullest lives. Mark Warner.  (Click to see high-resolution photo) Local leaders and community members gathered on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, for a ribbon cutting to open the Burke-Springfield Center for Active Adults (BSCAA). Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services' newest facility, located at 7541 Huntsman Blvd., Springfield, VA 22153 serves adults ages 50 and older in more than 8,000 square feet located in a renovated former retail space. The BSCAA features flexible space, classrooms, technology access and more. The center, open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., offers a variety of classes and programs, including exercise, board games, art classes and more. To learn more and see the August program calendar, visit the BSCAA webpage.  The brick-and-mortar location expands access and programming for the community, which participated in Burke-Springfield Center Without Walls' programming at various locations for more than 15 years.  BSCAA programs and activities are open to adults age 50 and older with an NCS community center membership.
