The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors declared Jan. 20, 2026, as a Day of Racial Healing in Fairfax County. Providence Supervisor Dalia A. Click photo to open high-resolution version.This Day of Racial Healing is a nationwide initiative that has been observed annually since 2017. It is part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) initiative, which aims to repair the damages caused by racism, promote trust and create connections for a more equitable society. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is committed to racial healing and equity through Fairfax County’s One Fairfax policy and NCS’ Mission, Vision and Values.“Truth in Voice, Truth in Service” is an annual gathering of youth to promote connection through discussion and community service. The Fairfax County Veterans and Military Families Commission is conducting a survey to identify gaps in serving county veterans and military community.NCS and the commission are seeking feedback from active-duty service members, reservists, retired or separated veterans, and active duty/reserve/retired military spouses.The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. The survey will close on Feb. 16, 2026. The feedback will be used to help inform county policy and practices for this community.The commission was created by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2024 with the direction to explore and represent issues and challenges faced by veterans, members of the Armed Forces, and their families in Fairfax County.Visit the Fairfax County Veterans and Military Families Commission page or download a printable flyer to learn more.Take the Survey

Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate is pleased to announce the reopening of the center after a five-month renovation of HVAC and flooring.The community is invited to attend a re-opening party on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, 1 – 4 p.m., at the center at 12125 Pinecrest Rd., Reston. The free event is for all ages. There will be pizza, snacks, games and fun for all. Please see the event flyer for more information.The center will resume programming beginning Jan. 26, 2026.
