How You Can Help Artemis House
Thank you for considering donating to the Artemis House, formerly the Fairfax County Women’s Shelter. Our goal at Artemis House is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence.
The following are some ideas of ways you can help the women and children at the shelter:
- Provide items from our Wish List
- Distribute brochures in the community. Brochures can be acquired by calling 703-435-4940
- Translate documents into different languages to reach more people in the community.
- Find pro-bono lawyers to represent clients at Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for Protection Order and Custody hearings.
- Find/create temporary jobs or training opportunities at various worksites.
- Find physicians who are willing to provide free or low-cost services for clients.
- Participate in the “Good Corporate Neighbor” plan with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net). Collect old and used cell phones and send to Shelter Alliance (they pay for shipping and donate the proceeds of the cell phone sales to Fairfax County Artemis House).
- Do fundraising events to raise money for our donations account that helps provide medication, transportation, and more to clients and their children.
- Become mentors for clients who have completed their stay at the shelter.
- Solicit or raise money for clients for haircuts, personal care, massages, etc.
- Provide empowerment trainings/ workshops/software/ workbooks that would empower clients in their new life (ex. social skills, resumes, assertiveness…).
