In the early 1980’s, Ms. Spears began her involvement and service to organizations that promote self-sufficiency through support and advocacy for those in need, particularly the welfare of women, by serving on the Board of Directors of My Sister’s Place (MSP), a shelter for battered women and children. A member of the Zonta Club of Fairfax, she and other club members join together in fund-raising and hands-on service projects to benefit local and international communities. The Zonta Club of Fairfax places it’s primary focus on education…raising to the attention of Fairfax County problems that our community faces, financially supporting education opportunities for women, and empowering young people and women to pursue new and challenging opportunities, and to give back hands-on-service to their community. Ms. Spears serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Fairfax Club, and is a member of the Service and Membership Committees.
Although Ms. Spears was born in the Nation’s Capital, she considers herself a Virginian, having grown up and attending schools in Warrenton, a small Northern Virginia town.
Ms. Spears is honored to be Supervisor Cathy Hudgins’ appointee to the Commission for Women. Hunter Mill District residents should contact her if you have issues or concerns that you would like addressed by the Commission.
