Healthy Families Fairfax: First-Time parents

Throughout Pregnancy and Your Baby's First Years

Healthy Families Fairfax is for parents who are expecting a child and want help to be the best parents possible.

Our Services

A Healthy Families Fairfax family support worker and a public health nurse WORK TOGETHER with you.

The family support worker visits you in your home on a regular basis before your child is born and continues for as long as you want until your child is five years old. Your nurse advises you on the health needs of both you and your baby.

All our services are free, private and confidential; participation is completely voluntary.

Helping Parents Do Their Best

Healthy Families Fairfax is for parents who are expecting their first child and want help to be the best parents possible.

If you have questions about pregnancy, the best way to raise your baby, how to comfort her, how to understand and respond to his needs as he keeps changing and growing, Healthy Families Fairfax may be just the help you need.

During Pregnancy

We help ensure your baby’s birth is healthy. We give you the information you need so you will know what to expect during pregnancy and while your baby is being born.

Skills and Resources

We teach new moms and dads about problem-solving skills you can use during different stages of your child’s growth. And we connect you with help in your community, such as child care, transportation and training for employment.

Medical Care and Support

In addition to a public health nurse who is assigned to you, we can arrange medical care for you and your new baby so you can be sure your baby’s shots are up-to-date. We can also help make arrangements if you want to meet with other new parents or with a counselor to talk about your concerns.

Tracking Your Baby’s Progress

Together, you and your family support worker will keep track of how your baby develops during different stages of early life. As your little boy or girl grows, it is important to keep track of how he or she is doing to prevent any possible health or learning problems.

National Recognition

Healthy Families Fairfax is nationally accredited as a provider of highest quality home visitation services and has been recognized by the National Association of Counties for its “tremendous work and innovative ideas.”
