Virginia Department of Veterans Services offers a range of services from assistance with filing claims to certifying educational programs.

Virginia’s Military Home Modification Program - Granting Freedom provides funding for home modifications for veterans with disabilities or servicemen or women with disabilities who sustained a line of duty injury resulting in a service-connected disability.

Virginia Veterans’ ID Card is a way to show proof of veteran status. They are available at any DMV Customer Service Center. Many businesses offer discounts to veterans.

Fairfax County Government Services

Fairfax County Government Department of Human Resources takes into consideration or gives preference to an applicant’s status as an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, provided that the veteran meets all of the knowledge, skills, and eligibility requirements of Fairfax County Government positions. Additional consideration is given to veterans with a service-connected disability.

Fairfax County Real Estate and Car Tax Exemptions provide a tax exemption on a principal residence and a lower car tax on one motor vehicle for certain veterans with disabilities and their surviving spouses who reside in Fairfax County.

Blinded Veterans Association helps veterans who are blind. All services are free, including employment training and placement.

CATCH A LIFT assists wounded service members from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with maintaining their physical fitness. It provides free gym memberships or in-home gym equipment to wounded post 9?11 veterans anywhere in the United States.

Disabled American Veterans provides free assistance to veterans with disabilities in obtaining benefits and services through military service.

Final Salute provides transitional housing to homeless female veterans and their children and gives interest-free loans and grants to prevent homelessness.

Fisher House provides free short-term housing to the families of military personnel receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. There are a number of Fisher houses in the Washington metropolitan area.

Virginia Wounded Warrior Project supports wounded warriors on their road to recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injuries. Available services include assessments, case management, outpatient treatment, rehabilitative services, and family support.
