Fairfax, Va. - The Fairfax County Commission for Women is seeking a college student interested in serving on the Commission from September 2005 through May 2006. The student will serve as a non-voting member, aiding the Commission in gaining perspective on issues facing young women and serving as a conduit of information to peer groups and student organizations. The Commission will serve as a mentor in helping the student get involved with and understand issues facing women and girls in Fairfax County.

The mission of the Commission for Women is “to promote the full equality of women and girls in Fairfax County.” It analyzes barriers to women’s equality, gaps in services for women, and emerging trends and concerns affecting women and girls. The Commission advises the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on how to address these problems and provides leadership in implementing solutions.

Students enrolled in at least one college-level class who are residents of Fairfax County may apply. The student representative must be able to attend monthly meetings and provide a summary of accomplishments at the end of the year. Interested students should submit a resume (including interests, organization involvement, and education) and a one paragraph statement on why they wish to serve on the Commission to the Fairfax County Office for Women, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Suite 318, Fairfax, VA 22035.
