Parenting Education Programs
This program offers parenting
classes that include the entire family – parents and their children.
- Classes range from 12-21 weeks, depending on the ages of
children in the family
- Available in English or Spanish for most curriculums
- Classes with an African American cultural focus
- Offered in a variety of community settings
- Classes are free, and include:
- A light evening meal
- Child care for children under 5 years of age
- A structured program for children 5 years of age and older

Healthy Families Fairfax
Families who are referred to this program receive educational and supportive services to help prevent child abuse and neglect and promote child health development.
- Refer at-risk,

- Mothers must be
pregnant or the newborn baby must be younger than three
months old
- Families referred
to the program voluntarily choose to participate
- Services are provided
until child reaches age 5

Encouragement Program (PEP) in the Washington, D.C.

The Naomi Project

Council of Churches, this program:
- Matches pregnant women who have special
needs with trained volunteers who help them until the baby
is up to 3 years old.
- Fosters positive parenting skills, provides
child development information, and encourages consistent prenatal
care.

Resource Mothers

A statewide site for
the Resource Mothers program that also has links to other resources.
Organization matches pregnant teens (eighteen and younger, first time mothers) with trained, mature women
who provide the teen with assistance and support throughout
their pregnancy and up to the baby's first birthday (in the
Alexandria program) or third birthday (in the Fairfax program).
- Some local programs offer parenting education programs.

- RSM program of Alexandria provides services for teens in Alexandria City only. The Alexandria program also offers a Resource Fathers program.
- Fairfax County RSM provides services to teens throughout Fairfax County including: Alexandria, Annandale, Centreville, Chantilly, Falls Church, Fairfax, Herndon, Reston, Sprinfield, and Vienna.
- Both programs offer parenting education,
encouragement for teen mothers to remain in school, and help
in enrolling in either of the two alternative schools available
for teen moms.
- Transportation is provided to all medical appointments.
